Kids Tri - Result Adjustments |
After a full review of the results and forensic check of the run lap times we have been able to highlight some discrepancies and the actions taken will be as follows:- 1) Race Number 90: Evelyn Rourke - one lap run too few, time will be adjusted accordingly 2) Race Number 135: 1 lap short on run - time will be adjusted accordingly (note: the competitor missed the mat when leaving T2 so his first lap was included within his bike time.) 3) Race Number 160: Charlotte Olsen - one lap run too few, time will be adjusted accordingly The marshals did not pick this up on the day so it is appropriate to change times rather than DQ the competitors. Two further competitors missed the timing mat when leaving T2 so their first run lap is included in the bike time. The full course was run and their overall time is correct so no further adjustment will be made.

Sam Pettit - Racing in Ireland |
Not content with taking a relaxing family holiday in Ireland, Sam Pettit used the short break to scare some locals with his speed in an East Essex Tri club shirt. Sam raced in a 5 mile road race in Glanmire Co. Cork Ireland and finised in second place in a time of 27 minutes 31 seconds. For those of you unfamiliar with the roads in this part of Ireland - this would not have been an easy out and back along a straight level road - the course would have been lumpy and with a very steep camber - so well done Sam! Full results can be found in this link

Congratulations also to Marc Miller, Richard Fuller and Zena Shean the club championship handicap winners. Basildon Tri |
Congratulations to Sam Pettit (1st Male), Christine Mowle (1st Vet Lady), Jane Bramble (2nd Vet Lady) and Dermot Robinson (3rd Male) in today's Basildon Triathlon. Gary Lane (1st Male Vet Crocker Cup) and Greig Avery (1st Male Senior Crocker Cup) also had podium finishes in the Police Crocker Cup - making this nearly a clean sweep for East Essex Tri club. The early start to the race meant it had the best of the day's weather and a strong East Essex presence once again this year littered the top 10 places. It was also the first ever triathlon for Peter Hawtree, Toni Saunders and Howard Middleton, which is in keeping with so many other EETC members who over the years have made this short but tough race their first race. So Triathlon season is here - hard to believe it is summer!! anyway - here's to a great season. The league has been updated with the results from Basildon - still waiting for Newmarket, Merchant Taylor and Holmwood House results.

Cambridge Duathlon |
Wind, rain and near freezing conditions were the order of the day at the Cambridge Duathlon. However, this didn't deter the hardy boys and girls from EETC who headed up the M11 to compete in this world qualifying duathlon. Despite the conditions this was a really well run event with loads of friendly marshalls at every turn. Marc Miller continued his fine early season form with blistering bike and run sections to come home in 2hours 16 minutes. Richard Fuller and Chris Milne had their own mini race with Richard just pipping Chris to the line. Matt Pickett stayed upgright to complete the course a couple of minutes behind. Chas Baynes defied the wind and rode his new P3 like a surfer riding the crest of a wave in Hawaii. The second mini race of the day saw Andy Dawbarn pip Neil Lynch to the line with a strong second run. Gemma Tune continued her preparations for the world sprint championships with yet another fine race (yes Gemma easily beat Andy and Neil, with minutes to spare). Meanwhile it was not such a good day for Sue Fuller, who punctured and had a very long cold walk back to transition.

Disabled Junior Sports Person of the Year for Rayleigh |
CONGRATULATIONS to Joseph Shean for winning the Disabled Junior Sports Person of the Year for Rayleigh. See a picture of Joseph receiving his award here If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Joseph (where have you been hiding?), the following will explain some of Joseph's achievements with EETC - this was read at the prize giving ceremony: Joseph suffers from 49xxxxy syndrome, which is a condition caused by too many chromosomes creating many and varied problems. He suffers from both physical disabilities and learning difficulties; he is a pupil at Cedar Hall Special school in Thundersley. For the last 7 years he has been an active member within East Essex Triathlon club, whether it be training, competing, marshalling or just being a friend of the club. He is well known in children's triathlon across the whole region and is warmly welcomed wherever he races. As a marshal he is verbose encouraging others to work hard to reach their potential. Overall he has been a great asset for East Essex Triathlon Club and we look forward to his support and membership of the club for many years to come

East Essex Gym Triathlon |
Huge thanks to the staff and management of Virgin Active for facilitating the first East Essex Gym Triathlon. 18 members of the club battled for the crown of East Essex Tri Indoor Tri Male and Female Champion. While this was a fun event it also allowed the club to raise £100 for the Virgin Active charity Honey Pot. I'm not sure what the regulars at Virgin made of the mad people running between the rowing machine, static cycle and threadmils, while being encouraged by people holding a stop watch and clip board! This is the first time we've tried this approach to an indoor tri and I think it was a great success (and not just because I won!!). We will definatly do this again! We have some excellent pictures of pain and sweat - soon to be available on a webste near you!!! Well Done to Neil Lynch and Gemma Tune - the 2010 winners of the EETC Indoor Triathlon Day. (full results are available here). Yes - your eyes don't deceive you - Mike Shean and Alan Kemp have completed a Triathlon!!

Aquathlon News |
Following a wet winter and in particular a very wet last few days the run course is both wet and muddy appearing more like a cross country than an offroad course. Although the forecast from Monday onwards is currently showing fair weather it is unlikely that the puddles and ankle deep mud that appear in places of the course will have totally gone by then. Please ensure you have appropriate shoes for the race.

Indoor Tri Event |
East Essex in association with Virgin Active have organised an indoor Tri (1km row, 4km cycle and 1.5km run) on April 18th (starting at 1pm). These distances may be short but they are challenging enough for everyone - from novices to the hardened Ironmen!!! EETC are donating £100 to Honeypot Charity - so we'd really like to see as many club members as possible (over 16's only) participate. Please let Zena or Neil know if you plan to take on this challenge.

01 Apr 10 |
Steeple time Trial |
Sothend Wheelers have looked at the Steeple Course in the last week. There is some quite bad subsidence on the road on the way back to Steeple after the long drag uphill as you drop down the hill with a couple of long ridges as well as some cracks. Please use extreme caution on this part of the course. It is less severe if you keep close to the left hand side of the road but please make sure that you check John's risk assessment on the day, which should be with the signing on sheet

New Core Stability Class |
Gemma Tune is starting a new Core Stability Class on Thursday evenings at Runnymede Swimming Club (time to be confirmed but should start between 7:45 and 8:00pm) The classes will take over from the highly successful Turbo classes which are due to finish at the end of March (thanks Ian and John!!) The class won't be as slow as yoga/pilates as it is based on the more 'functional' physio approach to core stability. It also doesn't focus on your abdonimals but all muscles responsible for stabilising your core-abdominals - back, hip and buttock muscles. Anyone who wants to attend will need to bring a fit ball and a towel/mat. It's open to all EETC members and their families - as long as they're over 16 years. I will set it at an intermediate level but will give easier/harder options.

Kate's Caper |
Kate and Chris Cammidge are putting on a trail race on Hadleigh Downs from Chapel Lane car park on Saturday 6 March. All the proceeds of the race will go to Havens Hospice as Kate is running the London Marathon for them this year. The race is a written narrative for the route, over approximately 5 miles, start times are staggered between 09:30 and 10:30 so that there is not too much following of each other. These sort of races are great fun and make a change from the usual training routes, there will be cakes and sweets afterwards. Runners and walkers are all welcome See this flyer for more information

However, for all of you who feel you are missing out on a long bike ride, a number of club members will be taking part in the Amisvelo sportive on Saturday (obviously dependant on the weather!) See here for more details: http://amisvelo.com/Sportive.htm. Should be a good one.
