New Core Stability Class |
Gemma Tune is starting a new Core Stability Class on Thursday evenings at Runnymede Swimming Club (time to be confirmed but should start between 7:45 and 8:00pm) The classes will take over from the highly successful Turbo classes which are due to finish at the end of March (thanks Ian and John!!) The class won't be as slow as yoga/pilates as it is based on the more 'functional' physio approach to core stability. It also doesn't focus on your abdonimals but all muscles responsible for stabilising your core-abdominals - back, hip and buttock muscles. Anyone who wants to attend will need to bring a fit ball and a towel/mat. It's open to all EETC members and their families - as long as they're over 16 years. I will set it at an intermediate level but will give easier/harder options.

Kate's Caper |
Kate and Chris Cammidge are putting on a trail race on Hadleigh Downs from Chapel Lane car park on Saturday 6 March. All the proceeds of the race will go to Havens Hospice as Kate is running the London Marathon for them this year. The race is a written narrative for the route, over approximately 5 miles, start times are staggered between 09:30 and 10:30 so that there is not too much following of each other. These sort of races are great fun and make a change from the usual training routes, there will be cakes and sweets afterwards. Runners and walkers are all welcome See this flyer for more information

Swim Time Trial Results |
Well done to everyone who took part in the first swim TT of 2010!! For some it was a bit of a shock getting back in the pool for a race!! For others it was business as usual. Well done Paul Hearmon 7:06 for his very first 400m timed swim - guess you'll be moving up a few lanes on Monday! The results of the 'Is it better to run or turbo before a swim Time Trial' are plain to see - and the run before a TT wins - but let's try it again next time and let Ian George lead the runners in a 50 minute sprint session and we'll take measurements again! As ever thanks to Zena, Mike Porter, Janice and Matt for help with the timing. Full results are here These will be added to the league and available at end of Jan when the league is offically launched. See you in 2 months for the next swim TT.

The Middle Distance plan is targeted at Wimbleball 70.3 Ironman in 2010 and the Ironman is targeted at Ironman France. (The plans can be adjusted to meet the dates of any races in the summer of 2010). All plans incorporate the training sessions which East Essex Tri Club provide with some additional training on your own. The plans and an introduction to them can be found here. For further details on these or any other aspect of training please don't hesitate to speak to one of the club's coaches. Hadleigh Downs Fell Race |
There is a race on Thursday at Hadleigh Downs, a very hilly 4.5 miles with 1000 feet of climbing. It starts at 10am on Thursday 31 December so be there by 9:30 as it starts at the bottom of the hill and finishes at the top - having visited the bottom and the top at least 4 times meanwhile! Many members of the club took part last year and really enjoyed it - so a recomended race to clear the cob webs in time for New Years Eve celebrations. More Details Here

Training Plans |

Richard Fuller has prepared an Ironman training plan for 2010. This is the first of the generic training plans which Richard will be producing and is aimed towards Ironman France, but can be used for any Ironman next year for the 24 members of the club who are tackling an Ironman event in 2010. Richard would really like any feeback on this plan (either via the forum or email richard@east-essex-tri-club.co.uk. The training plan can be found Here. The plan has been designed to include the training session which we at EETC provide each week as well as individual training sessions. The aim is to include at least 2 swim, bike and run sessions each week and to build up the distances over a 6 month period.

Hockley Woods |
We are planning a number of runs around Hockley Woods to ensure the x-country course is known to as many people as possible. These runs will start at 8am at Clements Hall on 28/11/09, 12/12/09 and 2/1/10. We encourage as many of our members to attend these runs because as well as a good training opportunity, we need as many people as possible to know marshal positions, points of access etc well in advance of the x-country race on 10th Jan. Zena will also be rounding up willing marshall volunteers as we'll need quite a few people on the day to help with directions, tea, cake serving, marshaling route, car parks, time keeping (to name but a few).

While the rest of East Essex Tri club were enjoying the challenges of the Hogg Hill cycle circuit, George Knight was competing in the Optima Junior Aquathlon in Richmond. Having to swim in an open air swimming pool directly under the Heathrow flight path was a cold and noisy experience for both parents and athletes alike, but George performed exceptionally well to achieve 3rd place and gain revenge over some of the triathletes that had beaten him at the Thames Turbo event earlier in the season

A short hill climb time trial, a one lap time trial and finally a 30 minute + 2 lap road race. John Smith and Zena Shean kept the day moving smoothly and the club's first event at Hogg Hill was a great success. Well done to Steve Pallett and Zena Shean as fastest male and female hill climbers. Elliott Ryan and Loretta Sollars blasted their way around the one lap time trial to be first male and female. Elliott completed an excellent afternoon by winning the sprint to the finish in the road race, followed closely by Ian George and Loretta Sollars. Full Results can be found here

Mob Match |
Thanks to everyone who turned up at Lakeside to represent the club in the annual Mob Match against Blackwater and Tri Sport Epping. 25 members of the club braved the cold water and the new run route - which some member failed to follow (notably a certain chairman and club captain!) Unfortunately we were pipped to the post this year. We won't have to wait long for revenge though as the cross country season is about to start again. See the Cross Country section of the website for details - but the first race is 25th October at Dunton Test Centre. We have over 100 adult members in the club now and we would like to see everyone one turn up and race on the 25th. We hope to have new race vests in time for the first race - more details to follow!

The league has been updated with the results.

Clacton Triathlon - Kids Race |
Three East Essex tristars travelled to Holland Country Park on Saturday to compete in the Clacton Duathlon. Originally basking in the exceptionally fine weather, the triathletes' parents were soon basking in reflected glory as all three achieved a podium place. Kiera Tippett led the girls' Tristar 1 race from start to finish to add to her growing list of successes. Newcomer Sinead Clark showed that she will be a formidable competitor next year by following Kiera across the line in second place. Finally, having knocked nearly four minutes off of his 2008 time for this event, George Knight achieved a well deserved third place in the boys' Tristar 3 race. Thanks to Dave Knight for supplying the report and picture

It was also Chris Carrott's first Triathlon as he completed the Sprint Tri. In the Sprint race there were podium finishes for Julia Jepson (1st Female vet), Christine Mowle (2nd Female Vet) and Zena Shean (3rd Female Vet). Alan Clark for was the first club member home in 9th place overall. Joe Giggins won the Eastern Region Junior Championship - in a time which would have won the overall event ! Middle Distance Tri |
Paul Gribbon made his first tentative steps into the world of Middle Distance Triathlons this weekend and posted an impressive 5 hour 49 minute time in the Vitruvian. Meanwhile, in slighlty sunnier climes or Monaco, Ian George, Chas Baynes and John Smith set about the task of conquering the Monaco 70.3. All three experienced triathletes did themselves proud - we're waiting for the inevitable stories of trials and tribulations on the day - but for the record their times were Ian (5:37:53) Chas (6:13:23) and John (6:56:43).
